Horbat Rosh Zayit is located in the western Lower Galilee, it was surveyed in the early 1980s by the Israel Antiquities Authority. During the Iron Age IIa, on the ruins of a previous settlement, a fort was built on the site, with agricultural facilities next to it. The fort was destroyed at the end of the 9th century BCE. The site is considered a remote settlement of the Kingdom of Israel and underwent several changes until it was abandoned at the end of the 8th century BCE, during the Assyrian campaign of Tiglath-Plaser III.
