Tel Esur is a settlement site situated at the western end of Wadi ‘Ara, on the trade route between Mesopotamia and Egypt. The tel, originally occupied during the Neolithic period, was mainly settled from the Middle Bronze Age through the Late Bronze and Iron Ages, and until the Roman/Byzantine period. The site was continuously occupied throughout the Middle Bronze Age IIb when most of the settlement activity moved to the south of the region. The excavations of the Zinman Institute of Archaeology, University of Haifa, have been conducted at the tell site since 2010.
